RET: Mental Health Regional Employment Team

Welcome to the North East Regional Employment Team on Mental Health

What's on the way for Mental Health and Employability?

It's an exciting time ahead for mental health and employability in the next 12 months. You can take an active part in shaping it as well by becoming involved in employability activities in your area.

    Coming soon:

    • The governments Mental Health & Employability Strategy - this will set out what we need to do to gain and retain people with mental health conditions into employment.
    • Work. Recovery & Inclusion - this will layout how the Public Sector will deliver on employment and severe mental health conditions to achieve the Public Sector Agreement 16. (Check out with your Local Authority what they are doing with this. It is more commonly known as PSA 16 NI 150 and may be part of their Local Area Agreement or LAA)
    • The Perkins Review - this is a review commissioned by DWP of their services to support people with Mental Health Conditions - lookout for more IPS (Individual Placement & Support) schemes being developed. There is an IPS pilot scheme ongoing in City of Sunderland at the moment.
    • Continuing roll out of Increased Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) - check with the website of your local PCT to see where they are in the rollout.
    • Jobcentre Plus Mental Health Coordinators - These key roles have just been created in the 3 Jobcentre Plus districts in the region - they are going to be the link for JCP on mental health & employability. Get in touch to see how you can work together.
    • There will be a series of events linked to delivering on PSA 16 NI150 during Jan to March 2010 keep your eyes & ears open. These events will be for Public, Private and third sector, with some aimed at the contribution that Further & Higher education along with vocational providers can make to PSA 16.

Also keep checking with MHNE about the reformation of the MHILES group with a new and more robust role.

That should keep us busy until the end of March 2010 - and we may know if there is a future for the RET past then.
